The Scent of Soil

Drama, music

A teenage immigrant chasing success in Canada is shaken by a parent’s sudden death back home, sparking a journey through grief, guilt, love, and what truly matters.

After enduring the challenges of student life in Canada—balancing odd jobs, loneliness, and cultural displacement—19-year-old Arjun finds stability. Now a permanent resident, he's on the brink of buying his first home, dreaming of bringing his parents to live with him. But a devastating phone call from home shatters everything: his mother has unexpectedly passed away. Overcome with grief and guilt, Arjun spirals into a silent emotional struggle, tormented by the time lost in pursuit of a dream he wanted to share with his family. As the world around him continues its rush toward success, Arjun begins to question his goals, priorities, and the very meaning of home. In his search for healing, he grapples with the tension between ambition and emotional connection, ultimately realizing that true success lies not in what we accumulate, but in who we hold close before it's too late.
